About

Award-winning CHA:COL, Inc., is an architecture practice championing boundary-pushing design in every space. Our creative work breaks the mold for custom residential design needs, for inventive workplaces, institutions, unorthodox retail spaces, as well as complex, exciting commercial spaces. Our resourceful architecture team specializes in: Educational, SIngle Family Residential, Live/Work Lofts, Adaptive Reuse, Creative Offices and Institutions.

Our company’s story began in 2006 when husband-and-wife principal duo Apurva Pande and Chinmaya Misra launched CHA:COL to a rousing success of quirky, experimental, and quite inventive residential and commercial spaces.  As the years progressed, we expanded into educational and workplace design. We have been humbled with a flurry of press coverage in the nation’s most prestigious publications and equally overseas, in Europe and the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Principals Apurva Pande and Chinmaya Misra each tally fifteen years of design experience.  Apurva Pande, is a licensed California architect (C-33657). His career began  in the offices of Frank Gehry, where he worked extensively on large-scale international institutional and commercial design projects, including the prestigious Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) in Toronto.

Chinmaya Misra’s fifteen years design experience had extensive application in large mixed-use, retail and workplace projects, both as Senior Associate at the Jerde Partnership and as Senior Designer at Gensler. Her practice experience in mixed-use projects ranges from California to Japan, Europe and the Mediterranean regions.

Chinmaya and Apurva regularly serve as design faculty at UCLA Extension and in the past, at Woodbury University. They are also co-founders and board members of an elementary charter school, Metro Charter, in downtown Los Angeles, widely regarded as a history creating grassroots community institution in downtown Los Angeles
